Is the Renton Village 8 Cinemas Gone?

Their movies are not listed in the paper or online. They are not answering their phone.
Yes, the theatre at the Landing is lovely. Yes, maybe there were too many screens in Renton with not enough population to support it, and something had to give. Yes, having the three dollar theatre at the East Valley cinemas is awesome.
But the Renton Village Cinemas go back a while, and I'm sad to see them go, if they are truly gone.
Then again, I was pretty sad when the Roxy Cinema in downtown Renton closed, even if, at the time they were only showing Indian films with no subtitles.
If I understand things correctly, the East Valley Cinemas was recently for sale. It would be terrible if they closed too.

You need to read the Renton Reporter! They had a picture of the marquee being taken down and an article about the closure lately. So yes, it's closed.

Yep, drove by last night and saw the short note on the box office saying they were closed. Bummer.

The Renton reporter, IMO, stinks as a resource. Most of the time it is feel good stories with no bearing on most people. It is mostly ads and they throw it in your driveway at odd hours so it gets wet and becomes compost. I would rather the writers focus on a community blog For up to date stuff like this and if they insist on a paper then do it with less frequent delivery of higher quality, better researched content.

My $.02.

Yeah, Lief. I wouldn't hold up the Renton Reporter as a paragon of journalistic excellence. I definitely don't read it for hard hitting news, just to keep track a bit of things going on around town.

It's a community paper, put together by low-paid journalists with few resources at their disposal, despite the many ads. My ex-husband has written for these tiny papers in many towns. It's a really thankless job, sitting through endless boring city council and school board meetings, and cranking out several stories in the same time many larger newspapers would require only one story of a reporter.

The mission of community papers is really different than a major paper. A lot of school and human interest stuff with the basics of what's going on around town. The economics of publishing content that requires a lot of research makes that type of reporting out of reach of this size paper. You have to be able to afford to pay someone for a week, or two, or a month, with them producing perhaps only one story out of it. Look at how many times you see two bylines--the editor and one reporter--in this paper, and you'll see why there's not much research.

Anybody can start a blog with hard hitting Renton news--you go first!

Yes, Freddy, as your readers point out, Renton Village AMC is closed. It was less about the Regal at the Landing and more about the new AMCs at Westfield and Kent Station. Regal's East Valley theater will likely close when a buyer can be found for the property. Sign of the times in the theater industry, I'm afraid.

Perhaps after he starts his blog, Lief would like to purchase the Roxy and reopen it as an arthouse, dinner cinema? 'twould be very cool! ;-)

If the Roxy reopened as an art house cinema, you'd really know that Renton has truly transformed.

Re: a hard hitting news blog.
Just because it is a good idea doesn't mean I am the right one to do it.

Further I am not interested in that even if it was a well paid position. Not my cup of tea.
Now the arthouse at he Roxy?? Hmmmm interesting.

Last thing. Serra media runs this blog-like updated community page called MyRenton.

Looks like a start in the right direction.

Roxy re-opening as a cinema period would signal a Renton transformation.
